In which cities to sleep around the Serre-Ponçon lake?
If you stay around the lake of Serre-Ponçon, it is a priori not to stay in town. This is good because the towns around the Serre-Ponçon lake are rather rare and small in size.
In addition to the cities, a few places are preferred for accommodation around the lake. Let's review these ideal places to look for accommodation not far from the Serre-Ponçon lake.
Savines-le-Lac
Let's start this little tour of the towns where to sleep at Lake Serre-Ponçon with the one that is certainly the most famous of all: Savines-le-lac.
Savines is a town that you will most certainly pass through if you are staying in the area since it is located at the level of the only bridge that crosses the Serre-Ponçon lake, the Pont de Savines.
Savines-le-lac is a small town of around 1 inhabitants which sees its population skyrocket as the sunny days approach.
You will find many accommodations there, mainly gites or apartments for rent, but also a Logis Hotel. In town, you will find shops, restaurants and around the lake you can enjoy nautical and aquatic activities.
The surroundings of the city offer many campsites to stay.
Chorges
Located northwest of the Serre-Ponçon lake, Chorges is not directly located on the lake. Indeed, the city is distant from the latter of approximately 8km. This proximity makes Chorges a good place to stay near the Serre-Ponçon lake.
The city has about 3 inhabitants, so you will find all the amenities you want, including accommodation. Here too, there are quite a few hotels, apart from the very beautiful Ax Hôtel Spa and restaurant, but rather apartments or houses for rent.
Embrun
Embrun is the main town around Serre-Ponçon with nearly 6 inhabitants. The town is located east of the lake about 500km from the edge of the lake.
In this city, a wide choice of accommodation is available to you: hotels, apartments or houses for rent or campsites. The city has the advantage of having a train station which connects it directly to the two main cities in the area, namely Gap and Briançon.
Other places to sleep around the Serre-Ponçon lake
In addition to cities, a few more isolated places may be worth exploring. Several of them are located on the surrounding heights and offer you a breathtaking view of the lake while remaining relatively close to it.
- Saint-Apollinaire: Let's start from the north of the lake and climb up to get to Saint-Apollinaire. A small village which offers a breathtaking view of the lake of Serre-Ponçon and which offers some pretty accommodation including a very beautiful bioclimatic chalet, as well as a campsite bordered by the lake of Saint-Apollinaire. The latter is truly worth a look.
- Chanteloube and Baie Saint-Michel: Let's get closer to the lake to head towards Chanteloube and the nearby Baie Saint-Michel.
It is a very beautiful area of the lake where you can enjoy the nautical and aquatic activities of this one while remaining a relatively wild place. There are several campsites there as well as a VVF (Village Vacances Famille). - Les Orres: After getting closer, let's move away now a little from the lake of Serre-Ponçon to go to the heights of the southern mountains, in one of the most prominent ski resorts in the Southern Alps: Les Orres . The resort is one of the closest and most accessible from Lake Serre-Ponçon. 15 km, or about 20 minutes, separate the ski resort from the lakeside.
Due to the accommodation and activities that the resort offers in summer, it is also a very nice place to stay not far from the Serre-Ponçon lake.
