Which district to choose to stay in Turin?

To begin this article, I present here the different neighborhoods in which you can stay in Turin. Beyond the historic center, which is absolutely essential during your visit to Turin, we also present the other districts that you can discover during your stay.

The historic district of Turin

A district that you are bound to see, the historic center is located in the heart of the city and concentrates the majority of the main buildings to discover. Squares, alleys or even arcades, we advise you to take the time to stroll through the centro storico. In piazza Castello you will first find Palazzo Reale and Palazzo Madame. If you want to have a drink or eat, we recommend the very large Piazza Vittorio Veneto. From this square, you will also have a magnificent view of the Church of the Gran Madre di Dio located on the other side of the Po and of the Vittorio Emanuele I bridge. Emblem of the city of Turin, the Mole Antonelliana is also located in the historic district. Finally, if you are looking for where to go shopping, you have an appointment in via Roma, the main shopping street in Turin.

Another unmissable square in Turin, Piazza San Carlo is characterized by its two churches, Santa Cristina and San Carlo, which are side by side and almost identical. This square is also recognizable by its arcades that surround it where you can drink a coffee, eat an ice cream or go shopping. You will also not miss the statue of the Duke of Savoy Emmanuel Philibert which sits on the Piazza San Carlo. Finally, note that many cultural events take place in this square and that the important victories of Juventus, the famous Turin football team, are celebrated in piazza San Carlo.

It is the ideal area to sleep in Turin. In addition, it includes many hotels, apartments for rent or youth hostels. We detail these establishments below.

Valentino Park and the San Salvario district

In the San Salvario district, you will find many bars and restaurants, a fairly interesting nightlife, museums, the magnificent Turin Synagogue and above all the Valentino Park, a must for a nature walk in the city. Along the Po, the Valentino Park extends over more than 40 hectares in length. It is one of the favorite places for locals who like to take advantage of this large green space to relax or take a walk along the banks of the Po. We therefore recommend that you also treat yourself to a relaxing break in Valentino Park during your visit to Turin. At the same time, you can visit the medieval town and also discover the fountain of the Twelve Months. Note that the castle del Valentino is also in the park. However, you will only be able to see the exterior of this building since this former residence of the royal family of Savoy now houses the architecture section of the Polytechnic University of Turin.

If you want to sleep in this area of Turin, it is quite doable. It is only a few minutes walk from the historic center.

The Superga hills

To the east of the city, you cannot miss the Superga hill whether you decide to climb it or not, since it dominates the city with its 670 meters in height and its basilica at the top. To climb the hill and enjoy a sublime view of Turin and the Alps, you have three solutions: by car, by funicular or on foot for the bravest since the climb is very steep. Once at the top, take the time to visit the magnificent Superga Basilica which houses the crypt of the kings of the Savoy family. You can also climb to the dome to offer you an even more breathtaking panorama. Finally, on this hill you will find a funerary monument that recalls the infamous tragedy of the plane of the Turin football team which crashed on the hill in 1949.

This area is not the most recommended for sleeping in Turin. It is far from the historic center and has few accommodations.

Mount of the Capuchins

Another hill in Turin, the Mont des Capuchins also offers a sublime view of Turin and the Alps. It shelters a whole district built directly on the hill as well as the Santa-Maria church at its summit. Renaissance style, the church and the monastery were built by the Capuchins to whom the hill had been offered by the family of Savoy to build buildings. At the top of Mount Capuchin, you can also visit the mountain museum and enjoy the museum's panoramic terrace for an even better view of Turin.

This district is also slightly far from the historic center, the visits to be made and moreover, there are very few accommodations on offer.

The Crocetta district

In this chic residential area, you will find interesting architecture mixing Art Nouveau and neo-Gothic styles. For art lovers, the Museum of Modern Art in Turin is also located in the Crocetta district.

If you want to soak up the Italian atmosphere and its art, then this is the area to sleep in Turin! You will find very beautiful establishments there, in quiet alleys. The historic center will be accessible on foot if you like to walk, otherwise you can take public transport.

The Borgo Pô neighborhoods

We then advise you to take the Vittorio Emmanuele bridge from the historic center to cross the Po and get to the Borgo Po district. On the banks of the Po and on the hills, this district gives pride of place to nature. You will also find many Art Nouveau buildings here as well as the Gran Madre di Dio church.

Ideal for walking, you will have a hard time finding accommodation in this area, which is also far from the center.
