Neighborhoods to sleep in Madrid

I will start this article by presenting the different neighborhoods where to sleep in Madrid. Depending on the visits you want to make or not, some neighborhoods will be more appropriate than others to stay.
Whichever neighborhood you ultimately select, be aware that the public transport network is well developed in Madrid. In addition, city-passes for Madrid allow you to opt for a public transport card in addition to certain visits, or you can choose the Hop On Hop Off bus.

The quarter of the Puerta del Sol

Probably the most famous district of Madrid, it is the historic center where the two emblematic squares of the city are located: the Plaza Mayor and the Plaza de la Puerta del Sol.
On the Plaza Mayor side, the atmosphere is rather one of small restaurants, winding streets and old and renovated buildings.
Regarding the Plaza de la Puerta del Sol, you enter one of the shopping streets of Madrid. Shopping enthusiasts will be delighted! Shops over several hundred meters!
Is this a neighborhood where to sleep in Madrid? Of course ! Here you are at the heart of Madrid life, popular with both locals and tourists. You are close to many sites to visit, you will never be far from a restaurant or a bar and this area is pretty, that counts! Without forgetting the metro which serves this area very well.
If I had to choose, I would say that the side of the Plaza Mayor is more suited to a tourist stay for my taste.

Palacio Real area

Here you are in the area of the Royal Palace of Madrid. As its name suggests, this district is located around the Palacio Real. Like the Palace, the style of the surrounding buildings is of Baroque inspiration, with a few touches of Rococo. The advantage of this neighborhood is that you are close to one of Madrid's most famous sites to visit.

In addition, you can reach the historic center of Madrid, namely the Plaza Mayor, on foot very easily. On the other hand, you can also access different gardens: Campo Del Moro, Jardines de Sabatini, Parque de la Casa De Campo.
A pleasant area to stay in Madrid.

La Latina

The next two neighborhoods we are going to cover are in the south of the city of Madrid.
La Latina is one of the emblematic and unmissable neighborhoods of Madrid. A bubbling life awaits you in its many alleys. You are free to let yourself be tempted by some succulent tapas, very cute shops or even dare to enter one of the small churches in this district.
Sleeping in the La Latina district of Madrid is the guarantee of spending good evenings to the rhythm of tapas while enjoying the proximity of several tourist sites within walking distance.

Lavapies

This second district is close to La Latina. It is one of the oldest neighborhoods in Madrid.
Regarding visits, there are no sites to visit here. It is rather the atmosphere that is to be appreciated. The Lavapies district is an ideal place to sleep in Madrid that would allow you to taste this atmosphere in the early evening, while enjoying the rest of the city during your visits during the day.

This district alone would be worth spending several days to see everything if you are an art lover.
Very nice hotels are located here. On the other hand, this district is not famous for its nightlife. This may be an advantage for some people looking for a quiet place to sleep in Madrid during their stay. This neighborhood is perfect!

Salamanca

Here you are in the chic district of Madrid. Between luxury boutiques, starred restaurants and cultural museums, you can admire the magnificent buildings and take the opportunity to do some shopping or discover the Paseo de la Castellana, where a beautiful promenade has been laid out. This district is very lively during the day and becomes quieter at night.
From this district, you can access, on one side, the famous Santiago Bernabéu stadium, and on the other, the Plaza de Toros de las Ventas, two tourist sites that are worth seeing.

Malasana & Chueca

To conclude on the different districts of the city, here are two districts bordering Madrid to the north. They are both dynamic and typical neighborhoods where you can enjoy a more traditional life, where old and young rub shoulders and live side by side. Among other things, you can visit the Madrid History Museum.
La Malasaña is an alternative neighborhood that saw the birth of Movida. As for the Chueca district, it is the gay district of Madrid, very trendy and attractive, it is a place where it is pleasant to walk and come to spend lively evenings!
If this atmosphere tempts you, it is an ideal place to sleep in Madrid to enjoy unforgettable Madrid nights.
