Where to sleep, hotels and accommodation in Oman
Hotel accommodation is expensive, even very expensive. The choice of hotels is great for both tourism and business travelers, especially in Muscat and Salalah. Several establishments have private beaches and recreation centers on the coast.
Let us point out some more economical hotels in old Muscat, close to the Mouttrah fish market.
On the main roads, there are a few "Rest Hotels" or motels with very attractive prices.
In high season (April to October), be sure to book your overnight stays well in advance.
Camping, camps, bivouac
It is possible to pitch your tent independently anywhere on Omani territory, with the exception of nature reserves, subject to special legislation. In all cases, it is necessary ask permission to the villagers if you wish to camp near a village.
Don't expect fully equipped campsites to speak of. Generally, these are Bedouin-style camps in the desert (like the camps set up in the desert dunes of Ash Sharqiyah Sands, or the Al Areesh camp in the Wahiba Sands desert). There are also camps in reserves, by the beach, or in the mountains (near Al Hamra). You can also camp around the wadis and in the Jebel Akhdar, a real gem! We therefore often camp in the heart of nature, in exceptional sites.
Some camps offer tents or hard rooms.
Generally, the prices are reasonable and these camps offer all modern comforts. The ideal season for camping is from October to April, but even in summer, one can camp on Omani peaks like Sayq Plateau, Salma Plateaus, and Jabal Shams.
Some agencies in Muscat rent camping equipment. Specialized in trips to Oman in luxury temporary camps, the Omani incoming agency Hud Hud Travels presents a substantial offer ... but not a given.
In all cases, care must be taken to respect the natural environment, local traditions and safety instructions: in the wadis, beware of flash floods.
