Walking through the streets of the Historic District of Salvador gives the impression of plunging back into ancient Brazilian history. Visit the first fort that was built at the entry point to All Saints Bay to protect the city from attack. A stop downtown is a "must" for anyone staying in Salvador de Bahia!

    Highlights

    • Done in English

The Central streets of Salvador allow tourists to learn more about the origins of Brazil. Your tour begins at the Barra Lighthouse, continues with the Castro Alves Theater, then the home of the Bahia Symphony Orchestra and the Castro Alves Ballet. The Fortress of São Pedro and Praça Castro Alves is on the road to the Historic Center of Pelourinho, which offers its sights along every street. Don't miss the historic churches, cafes, restaurants, shops and pastel-colored buildings.

With more than a thousand houses, churches and monuments built since the 16th century, Salvador represents the largest collection of Baroque architectural heritage in Latin America.
