Guided tour of Altun Ha and Howler Monkey Sanctuary

This Mayans and Monkeys day begins when you are picked up in the morning from your Belize City hotel, cruise port or water taxi terminal. After an hour's drive north through Creole villages and rainforest, discover the ancient Mayan city of Atun Ha rising out of the jungle. Explore Belize's most famous archaeological site with your guide as you learn about the royal priests and astronomers who ruled here for centuries. After your archaeological expedition, recharge with a traditional Belizean lunch and cold drinks.

After your meal, take a walk on the wild side of the community's Baboon Sanctuary, one of the region's few conservation centers dedicated to the protection of the black howler monkey. Explore the creatures (known locally as “baboons”) hanging from the trees and swinging along their ladder bridge. Relax as you return to Belize City, knowing that your visit has helped protect these primates, before the tour ends back at your departure point.
